49ers officially sign Robbie Chosen to a one-year deal; WR Frank Darby Waived/Injured

A move that was previously reported is now official

The San Francisco 49ers officially announced the signing of wide receiver Robbie Chosen to a one-year deal. Chosen entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets back in 2016.

The eight-year veteran has spent time with the Jets (2016-2019), the Carolina Panthers (2020-22), the Arizona Cardinals (2022), and the Miami Dolphins (2023). Last season, Chosen appeared in nine games with the Dolphins, where he totaled four receptions for 126 yards and a touchdown. The 49ers would love to get a big play, or four, from Chosen in 2024.

At 31, Chosen’s best days are behind him, but perhaps he still has enough speed to stretch the field and open things up underneath for the rest of the 49ers weapons.

The corresponding move was to waive/injure wide receiver Frank Darby, who signed with the 49ers on July 27. Darby played 34 snaps in the first preseason game, including five on special teams.

Darby caught one of his two targets for 33 yards and forced a missed tackle in the process. But he didn’t have enough speed to make a difference on special teams or do anything to stand out offensively.

We’ll see of Chosen is any different.
